History of the domain Alexandre BAIN

Alexandre BAIN was born in Pouilly without vines but had a farmer grandfather. He settled in 2007 on 5 ha at a place called Boisfleury (clay-limestone soil) and made his first vintage there. The estate is located in the Pouilly-Fumé region, on clay-limestone soils, an excellent base for growing Sauvignon Blanc. The vineyards face south-west, towards the peaceful course of the Loire. Apart from his terroirs, Alexandre displays another passion, animal traction, which he uses in horse-drawn plowing for part of his vineyard.

Certifications

Since 2007, the Alexandre BAIN estate has received Demeter and Ecocert certification for organic and biodynamic agriculture. Thus, the only treatments authorized in the vineyard are copper, sulphur, clay and plant extracts.

Cultivation method

Adepte de la culture biodynamique, il récolte des sauvignons mûrs, élevés en fût en sulfitant très peu. Ni levurés, ni chaptalisés, ni…ni…ni… ses vins se revendiquent naturels et sont dorés, généreux, parfois plus aboutis en bouche qu’au nez.

Pouilly-Fumé retire l’appellation à partir de 2014 aux vins d’Alexandre Bain, lesquels, sans doute, détonnent trop au milieu du formatage satisfait, qui sert d’unique horizon à tant de vignerons du coin. Peu importe, une nouvelle étoile est née, dont nous prédisons que la renommée ira grandissante… à l’inverse de celle de l’appellation
